Artist: Samantha Khan (@samanthakhaninsta)
18" x 24"
Medium: Acrylic on Canvas
Description: It relates to the theme of social justice and menstrual health. It depicts the female reproductive system as a force of nature embedded in the cosmos. The fallopian tubes and ovaries are lunar cycles. The uterus is a Taijitu (Yin Yang symbol) to represent the divine balance that forms the basis of life, with yin as flowing water, and yang as trees washed in warm sunlight. The blood of the menstrual cycle erupts as a nebula, flowing unbridled. To me, a safe cycle means a cycle that is treated as sacred. A cycle that is honoured with the same awe and reverence as the cosmos, and respected as a natural force of creation like the Earth itself. A safe cycle is one that celebrated by society, not shamed.
